Law of the Land

Our society today is very curious on many topics. Some wonder what it’s like to live in a different place, or they wonder what things would be like if a certain even went a different way. Needless to say, we are always questioning many things. The most common thing we question is the role of our government. Questions such as, “Is the government controlling us too much?”, “Do they have our best interest?”, and other radical questions like these. Now since we do live in a free country, everyone has their own opinion. And for those of you who feel that our government is not important, or that we would be fully capable of handling things alone, that’s fine, you may think that, as it is in your rights, that the GOVERNMENT provides. However, let me explain to all you optimists out there, why you are completely wrong.

Lets start out with a simple example. Everyone that has taken history class about early civilizations knows that the Roman empire was one of the most powerful, prosperous empires that had existed on this earth, as shown on this map below, highlighted by the purple.Image You do not have to be a fantastic map reader to realize that Rome was a great empire. They controlled the majority of Europe, some parts of north Africa, and also a portion of Asia. Now, many people will try to argue that, “The Romans were only so powerful because they had an abundance of people, and more numbers equals more power.”. To some degree this is correct, but just because there is a mass amount of people living in one area, does not mean that they automatically are able to work together. In fact, if there is no law and order, it would be a survival of the fittest type of lifestyle. The reason the Romans were able to be so well rounded in all aspects of their life, is because of their government. The Republic government that the Romans had introduced to the world was a first, and something that at the time was flawless. The only way that the empire was able to strive was because there was a solid foundation of a government that had control and the support of its people. Without the government, we as a whole would not be able to come together and take on difficult tasks.

Having some form of law and order in a nation is critical. But let’s imagine what the world would be like without any type of law, government assistance or any help. Lets look at this video to see what the world would be like.

Some of you may recognize this movie. The title which is “The Purge”, came out in the summer of 2013. As the trailer showed, America is doing will in every aspect a nation wants to see. There is no serious troubles in the nation anymore. However there is one night during the year where the government does nothing and it is a free world to the people. As we saw, on  that day, there is mass killings, robbery, and other felonies.

It is my belief that laws are what keep us sane. Without them, the world would turn into a state of savages. We would have no self limitations, leading to multiple problems in our society. And if we lost self limitations, we will eventually lose characteristics that make us humans. There would be no compassion for each other and our community. Just like in the video clip, we saw that there was no regard for one another, it was a survival world. And by having a world like this we would all eventually fall apart, there would be no social structure, no cooperation, no relationships with one another, and one man can only survive by himself for so long.

Just like I had explained in my first example with the Romans. Even back then, in a new world and undeveloped societies, the Romans were able to strive because they had a sound structure government system, unlike other nations at that time, who eventually fell apart. Nations with the best government these days are the ones that are a step ahead in the world. Having a government system enables all of the citizens to come together for a common cause. If we did not have one universal government in a nation, there could possibly be some small groups, but there is no doubt that, those would fade away quickly.
